This is just silly.

Apparently, this classic geek story is widely known, but I've only heard of it this past week and it killed me. I give you - The Tale of Eric and the Dread Gazebo.

In D&D, paladins can never be neutral (only Lawful Good). I call hoax.

Seriously though, this is one of the all-time great game geek stories on the internets and it always makes me so happy to read it.

I think that with the 1st Edition rules, a paladin could only be Lawful Good.

However, with the advent of the 2nd Edition rules, paladins could be Lawful Good or Lawful Evil.

I think the 3rd Edition rules continue this, although the break the paladin up into sub-classes.

As a wee tyke, I remember seeing an early-eighties issue of Dragon Magazine (I actually think it may have been "Best of Dragon vol.1, or maybe vol. 2 where I saw it) that had a paladin class for each alignment. Bizarre.
