It's soapbox time!
I don't usually use this space to discuss controversial subjects. After all, SpaceKitty.com began with the goal of creating a virtual happy hour - and one simply doesn't bring dissent to the cocktail party.
That being said, a recent abortion rights blog entry at Pandagon hit very close to home. Literally. The case they're discussing here took place in the obscure midwest town where I grew up. (!) Among the many maddening things about this lawsuit is the enormous difference between the poster's description of the case vs. the description taken from the anti-abortion website. You wouldn't even know they're describing the same woman! It's just another example of the divisions in this country, and makes me wonder if/when/how people will stop talking past one another and actually begin to communicate.
Given that a loud, vocal minority takes it for granted that women are fundamentally incapable of making decisions about their own life, health and well-being - I'm afraid I'll be waiting a long time for that day to come.

This topic gets me so bent out of shape its difficult to express myself with any coherence. I find it only more astounding every day that the life of an unborn potential person is valued more highly than the health and welfare of:
prisoners
women
those without health care
the elderly
children
the environment
the mentally ill etc.,
truly the brave leaders of the neocon revolution know how to run a ship! Get those uppity women back in the kitchen chained to a stove, and keep the masses so poor and stressed out they can only bring themselves to vote for American Idol contestants. Ahhhh!
